Tools discovered (11)

  • Get Country

Get the full data record for one country by ISO code (alpha-2 like 'US', alpha-3 like 'USA', or numeric like '840') or by name (e.g. 'Japan', 'Ivory Coast'). Returns capital, population, area, region/subregion, currencies, languages, calling codes, timezones, top-level domain, flag, land borders, demonym and all ISO codes.

  • List Countries

List countries, optionally narrowed by ONE filter: region, subregion, currency code, language code (ISO 639-1/2), calling code, or timezone (a UTC offset like "UTC+01:00"). Omit all filters to list every country. Use `fields` (comma-separated) and `limit` to keep the response small.

  • Search Cities

Search the world's cities by name and/or country, ordered by population (largest first). Returns name, country code, coordinates, population, timezone and GeoNames id. Omit `query` and pass only `country` to get a country's largest cities.

  • Reverse Geocode

Find the nearest cities to a latitude/longitude — turn raw coordinates into a place name. Returns cities ordered by distance, each with a distanceKm field.

  • Distance

Great-circle (haversine) distance between two points, returned in kilometres and miles. Provide either two city GeoNames ids (`from` and `to`) or two coordinate pairs (`lat1`,`lng1`,`lat2`,`lng2`).

  • Lookup Postal Code

Resolve a postal / ZIP code to its place name, administrative region and coordinates. Provide the ISO alpha-2 country code and the postal code.

  • Geolocate Ip

Look up the country an IPv4 or IPv6 address belongs to. The country record is lean by default — pass fields="full" for everything, or a field list to trim further for high-volume lookups.

  • Get Borders

Get the full records of the countries that share a land border with a given country. Accepts a country name or ISO code. Returns an empty result for island/landlocked-from-neighbours countries.

  • Search Places

Search the full GeoNames gazetteer (~13M named features worldwide): mountains, lakes, rivers, parks, landmarks, administrative regions and more — beyond just cities. Filter by name, country and feature class.

  • Random Country

Get a random country — useful for quizzes, "country of the day" and sample data. Lean by default.

  • List Reference Data

List the distinct reference values across the dataset: all regions, subregions, currencies, languages or time zones. Handy for building dropdowns and validating input.
