Draw.io diagram generation

Official draw.io MCP integration for architecture diagrams, flowcharts, org charts, network layouts, and process maps.

When to use

Use this server when the user asks for a visual diagram they can edit later — especially AWS/cloud architecture, software component maps, user flows, org charts, or any box-and-arrow layout. Prefer inline diagram preview when the chat host supports MCP Apps; the output opens in the draw.io editor for full editing.

Two capabilities

Create a diagram — Turn structured diagram input into an interactive draw.io diagram. Accepts either Mermaid syntax (best for architecture, flowcharts, sequence diagrams the agent can generate from conversation) or native draw.io XML (for precise layout control). Use Mermaid when starting from a natural-language request; use XML when refining an existing diagram or when the user supplied draw.io XML.

Search shapes — Look up draw.io stencil shapes by keyword when building custom XML layouts (AWS icons, network symbols, UML shapes, etc.). Returns exact style strings to embed in diagram XML. Use this only when hand-crafting XML; do not use it when Mermaid covers the layout.

Typical workflows

  1. Architecture from description — User describes a system → generate Mermaid (graph TB/LR with labeled nodes and edges) → create diagram → share the preview link.
  2. Flowchart / process — User describes steps and decisions → Mermaid flowchart → create diagram.
  3. Org chart from data — User provides CSV or hierarchy → convert to Mermaid or draw.io XML → create diagram.
  4. Refine existing diagram — User pastes Mermaid or draw.io XML → create diagram with updates.

Format guidance

  • Mermaid: keep node IDs short; quote labels with spaces; use graph TB or graph LR for architecture; use flowchart TD for processes.
  • draw.io XML: only when Mermaid cannot express the layout; search shapes first for cloud/vendor icons.
  • Do not mix formats in one call — pass either Mermaid or XML, not both.

Output behavior

Diagrams render inline in MCP App-capable hosts. Users can open the full draw.io editor from the preview to adjust layout, colors, and export to PNG/SVG/PDF. No account is required on the MCPBundles side — connect and use immediately.

Tools in this Server

This server uses the MCP protocol with a live tool list. Tools are discovered when your MCP client connects (often after authentication), so they are not enumerated on this public page. Open Studio or connect from your client to see the tools available to your workspace.

Score reflects the clarity of this server's tool definitions and accompanying agent guide. It measures how well an AI agent can pick the right tool for the job without ambiguity.

Automated checks over tool metadata and descriptions — a risk signal, not a certification that this server is safe to use.

Quality (Good) and security (High Risk) are separate checks. A listing can read well for agents while tool metadata still surfaces security risks — or the reverse. Neither score implies the other.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Draw.io MCP server?

Official draw.io MCP server for creating and opening architecture diagrams, flowcharts, org charts, and system designs. Supports draw.io XML, CSV imports, and Mermaid diagrams with inline preview in supported chat clients and full editing in the draw.io editor. It provides MCP tools that your client discovers when it connects (this page may not list every tool name) that AI agents can use through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

How do I connect Draw.io to my AI agent?

Add the MCPBundles server URL to your MCP client configuration (Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, etc.). The URL format is: https://mcp.mcpbundles.com/bundle/drawio-mcp. Authentication is handled automatically.

How many tools does Draw.io provide?

Draw.io is a remote MCP server. The live tool list is supplied by the server when your MCP client connects, so the count is not fixed on this public page. After you connect in MCPBundles Studio or your client, you will see the tools your session can call. A SKILL.md is still included to guide your agent on capabilities and workflows.

What authentication does Draw.io require?

Draw.io uses open data APIs — no authentication required.
