Financial Modeling Prep ETFs & Mutual Funds

Analyze ETF and mutual fund composition: what they hold, how they're allocated, and regulatory disclosures. Requires the fund's ticker symbol (e.g., SPY, QQQ, VFIAX).

Capability areas

  • Holdings — full constituent list with stock names, weights, and share counts for any ETF.
  • Fund information — metadata including fund family, inception date, expense ratio, and AUM.
  • Sector weighting — percentage allocation across GICS sectors (Technology, Healthcare, etc.).
  • Country allocation — geographic exposure breakdown by country.
  • Asset exposure — equity vs. fixed income vs. cash allocation mix.
  • Disclosures — regulatory filings for ETFs and mutual funds. Search by name or filter by date.

Workflows

  • Fund composition analysis: look up a fund symbol → get holdings to see top positions → get sector weighting for diversification assessment → get country allocation for geographic risk.
  • Fund comparison: pull holdings and sector weights for two competing ETFs and compare overlap and concentration.
  • Regulatory review: search fund disclosures by name or date to find recent filing activity.
  • Portfolio overlap: get holdings for multiple funds an investor owns and identify duplicate positions across them.

Gotchas

  • Symbol required: all endpoints need a valid ETF or mutual fund ticker. Use the Company Search or Stock Directory bundles to find fund symbols first.
  • Holdings are periodic: fund holdings are reported monthly or quarterly, not in real-time. Positions may have changed since the last disclosure.
  • Mutual fund vs ETF: both are supported but have different disclosure schedules and data availability.
  • Disclosure search: search by name returns partial matches. Use exact fund name for precise results.
