Search Site
Search Levadas by keyword and return up to ten matching pages (trails, guides, places, photography spots, month weather, area hubs) with title, URL and a short fact excerpt. Accepts queries in English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch or Polish, with or without accents; pass `lang` to get the pages in that language.
Get Trail
Get the full static fact sheet for one Madeira trail by its PR code (e.g. "PR6"): distance, difficulty, ascent and descent, walking time, route shape, altitude range, tunnels, best season, start and end points, recommended equipment, whether it needs a paid booking, and the official information panel. Static facts only — for today's open/closed status use get_trail_status, and the live conditions score is not published.
Get Pricing
Get the current Levadas one-time pass prices, lengths and refund terms, plus the purchase link. Levadas passes unlock the live trail conditions score, rankings and Magic Moments windows; the trail directory, guides and weather pages are free without a pass.
Get Trail Status
Get the official IFCN status (open, conditional/restricted, or closed) for a Madeira trail by its PR code (e.g. "PR1"), or for all classified trails if no code is given. This is the official closure authority, never the live conditions score.
Get Alerts
Get currently active hazards near Madeira hiking trails: fires, road closures and weather warnings from official and satellite sources. Returns nothing if there are no active hazards right now.
Get Fees
Get whether a Madeira trail needs a SIMplifica booking and what it costs, by PR code (e.g. "PR1"), or for every trail if no code is given. Booking fee is paid to SIMplifica directly, not to Levadas.
Get Gpx Url
Get the Levadas page for a Madeira trail's GPX track download, by PR code (e.g. "PR1"). The download itself is free but requires an email address (no payment, no account) — there is no direct file link.
Get Packing Tips
Get what to pack for Madeira hiking: which trails have a walk-through tunnel (bring a light), the sea-level vs summit temperature range, the wettest months on the ridge, a general packing checklist and basic trail etiquette. All derived from the same trail and climate data used elsewhere on this site.
Get Webcams
Get the curated catalog of live Madeira webcams: each cam's name, the nearest marked hiking trail, the straight-line distance in metres, that trail's trailhead elevation, and how many marked trails sit within 5 km. Also says whether a cam is a continuous stream or a still frame the operator refreshes. Useful for "what does it look like near <trail> right now" — a cam frames one patch of sky and is not a reading for a whole route.
Get Sun Times
Get the astronomy for a date in Madeira: civil dawn, sunrise, solar noon, sunset, civil dusk and the length of the day, in Madeira local time. Pass a trail PR code (e.g. "PR6") to use that trailhead's coordinates, or omit it for the island reference point. Astronomy only, computed from the date and the coordinate: this is not a forecast, and the latest safe start time for a route is not published.
Get Climate
Get Madeira's monthly climate normals: ten-year average day and night temperature, rainfall, rainy days, sunshine hours, peak wind and sea temperature, at the south coast, the north coast and the 1818 m summit. Pass a month to get all three places for that month; omit it for the whole year at the south coast. These are long-run averages for planning a trip, never today's weather and never a forecast.
Get Transport
Get the public bus connection for a Madeira trailhead by PR code (e.g. "PR1"), or for every trailhead we hold data for if no code is given: the nearest stop, its straight-line distance from the trailhead, the lines serving it with their direction and weekday departure times, and the timetable's validity window. IMPORTANT: only part of the island's bus network publishes a timetable in a readable form, so a trail with no result here is one we hold NO BUS DATA for. It never means no bus reaches tha
Get Events
Get dated events that physically affect Madeira trails, trailhead access or mountain roads: ultra-trail races, rally stages, nature festivals and meteor-shower peaks. Each entry carries its dates, what kind of impact it has, the roads or trails named by a source, a link to the official source, and the date we last checked that source so staleness can be judged. Only events whose official source resolves are included.
