One tool, hasdata_bing_serp_getSearchResults, and it takes q. Everything else shapes which Bing answers.

Targeting

mkt is the market, cc the country and setLang the interface language. location takes free text, while lat and lon take coordinates, and sending all three silently drops the text. Pick one way to say where the search happens.

safeSearch and filters narrow the set, and deviceType asks Bing for the desktop, mobile or tablet page.

first is an offset, and an unreliable one

first is a result offset rather than a page number, and page two is first: 11. In measurement, 1, 8 and 21 all returned the same results as a call with no first at all, while 11 returned a different set. Positions restart at 1 in every response, so an offset that Bing quietly ignored looks exactly like a page of new results.

Compare the links before you trust a second page, deduplicate by link when merging, and treat the count already collected plus position as the absolute rank.

Reading the payload

The result count moves. The same query returned six organic results on one call and fourteen on another, because Bing decides how much of the page is ads, answers and widgets. Never hard-code a count or assume ten.

The response carries organicResults, and ads, copilotSearch and pagination when the page has them. Those three are absent rather than empty, so test for the key before reading it. There is no knowledge panel, video or image block in this payload.

copilotSearch is not one string. The answer sits in textBlocks, typed as headings and lists, and references is often empty, so a citation list may have nothing in it to report.

Each successful call spends credits from the connected account, so run the query once and work from the payload rather than re-searching per field.
