Open Library API providing access to the world's largest collection of books, authors, and works with detailed metadata and availability information.

Data Model

  • Books, Authors, Works — core entities; keys from search used for detail fetches.
  • Subject Books, Popular Books, Publisher Books — browse by subject, popularity, publisher.
  • ISBN Details — lookup by ISBN.

Gotchas

  • Key format: Book/author keys are path-like (e.g. /works/OL123W); use as returned from search.
